For the Fall meeting it was reported that Contract and Grant FY01 funding through September 2000 was $18.1M versus $23.8M received through October 1999. Receipt of NSF and NASA FY01 funding due October 1 was been delayed; NSF started to release FY01 funding in late October. FY01 funding received through April 2001 is $79.74M versus $83.52M received through April 2000. Heavy funding for the Triana project in 99/00 is the primary reason for this year's reduced funding level. ONR is continuing to closely monitor expenditure rates requesting quarterly updates on grants with low expenditure rates. UCSD Coeus 3 Phase I For Phase I, the SPEAR project (Sponsored Project Excellence Achieved through Redesign) has adopted a simplified approach using MIT's Coeus 3 on a relational database to track UCSD's awards. The name Coeus was chosen by MIT. In Greek mythology, Coeus was the Titan associated with wisdom, and the grandfather of Apollo and Artemis. Award information will be passed directly to UCSD financial systems and data warehouse for campus use via the web. These are essential steps in preparing for electronic proposal processing. The electronic proposal development and approval process will be addressed in Phase II. The SPEAR Steering Committee and Work Group selected the Coeus option to reduce the complexity of our initial efforts under Phase I. As such, the approval and electronic proposal segments in Coeus 3 will not be considered until Phase II. Phase I is currently being tested in the SIO and upper campus Contracts and Grants Officer. ONR Site Visit The ONR Site Visit to SIO to consider project funding for the period beginning January 1, 2002, will be held September 24-28, 2001. PI's wishing to submit proposals should contact their respective ONR program managers to discuss their projects. This year the Omnibus Proposal submitted by SIO to ONR will be in the general proposal format similar to that of previous years; however, this year, proposals MUST be submitted in Portable Document Format (PDF). All individual proposals will be merged into a single PDF file to form the SIO Omnibus Proposal that will be submitted to ONR. Proposals should be submitted, both a single hard copy AND electronically (in PDF format), to Nancy Wilson by June 1, 2001. The PDF file can be e-mailed as an attachment to nwilson@ucsd.edu (with a copy to dbennett@ucsd.edu) and the hard copy can be sent to Nancy Wilson, Mail Code 0210. Proposal format guidelines and a proposal checklist have been sent by email to the SIO academic mail list and MSO's. Investigators planning to submit ONR proposals and make presentations during the Site Visit should provide proposal titles to Doug Bennett by June 1 in order to facilitate planning of the agenda. At the same time, please let Doug know of any scheduling constraints PI's may have during the week of September 24-28. If you have questions regarding proposal preparation and submission, please contact Nancy Wilson at extension 4-4571 or nwilson@ucsd.edu. If you have questions regarding the ONR Site Visit agenda and presentations, please contact Doug Bennett at 2-2911 or dbennett@ucsd.edu. |
